About Harbour Doula

My name is Emma Conroy, I am the birth worker behind Harbour Doula. I provide supportive birthing services in and around Vancouver’s West End.

A doula is a non-medical professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to expectant parents.

My philosophy is simple: I am here to act as a guide and support my clients no matter how they choose to birth their babies. I believe that birth is a natural, instinctual process, but also one that is inherently unpredictable. I fully support all birth choices, trusting that each individual or family will make the decisions that are right for them.

Birth is an emotional and transformative experience, and I am here to offer a compassionate, non-judgemental space where you can share your hopes, concerns, and desired outcomes. My goal is to offer comfort, guidance, and reassurance throughout your pregnancy, birth, and early postpartum journey.

My journey into birth work began after welcoming my niece in early 2023. Having worked with children as a language educator and dance instructor intermittently for over a decade, I found myself supporting not only the children in my care, but their mothers as well. Recognising this, I chose to refocus and dedicate myself to supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and beyond. I am an emerging Doula and completed my Birth Doula accreditation through Douglas College in 2024.

Realistic and Holistic Support

Every pregnancy, birth, and family is unique. My approach is grounded in compassionate, practical support that adapts to your individual needs as a whole. By combining emotional, physical, and informational support, I aim to help you feel informed, confident, and supported throughout your pregnancy.

The principles that guide my practice include:

  • Informed choice and decision-making support
  • Nutrition and physical preparation during pregnancy
  • Mind-body practices (relaxation, breathing, meditation)
  • Personalized birth planning
  • Continuous support during labour and birth
  • Postpartum care, recovery, and bonding support
  • Early postpartum follow-up and guidance

My long-term goal is to strengthen my knowledge of established and emerging birthing practices and create an initiative that expands access to birth support and childbirth education in rural communities throughout northern BC and the Yukon.

When I’m not supporting families, you’ll find me working at my daytime consulting job or exploring and or coaching various fitness activities.
